Master studentstudents from Delft present at GTL

Students from Delft studying for a Master’s degree in Interacting Design at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering (TU Delft) presented the results of their research in collaboration with Soundtrackcity at the GTL conference (Sound, Vibrations, and Air Quality) on 11 and 12 November.

Their research applied listening in a scientific context. Master’s students in Interacting Design investigated how pedestrians physically experience street sounds. Using soma-aesthetics and microphenomenology, they mapped subtle physical responses to urban sounds – an innovative way of understanding the relationship between body, space and sound. Documentation of experiences in the vicinity of Delft station revealed a pattern that recurs in all cultures: everyone loves birdsong and church bells, and everyone hates motorcycles.

This year, Soundtrackcity collaborated with various universities and colleges. Students from a wide range of disciplines, from social geography to interaction design, explored how listening can contribute to a deeper understanding of our urban environment. More on that here.
