Soundwalk around Westkreuz
First highway in the world

Westkreuz is a huge infrastructural knot in Berlin with a long and peculiar genesis. Right here was the first road in the world only acessible for cars. The Automobil- Verkehrs- und Übungsstraße (‘Automobile traffic and training road’) also known as AVUS). Due to the crisscrossing of an abundance of roads, rail and metro tracks the area is shredded in small, sometimes hardly accessible places with each have their own particular milieu. Soundtrackcity has been studying this area for a number of years through soundwalks and other listening practices. The overarching question is how (fast) traffic and large scale infrastructural constructions determine a metropolitan environment sonically.

By following the area over a longer period of time, we can get a grasp on slow processes of change and how these almost unnoticed affect the acoustic space. In 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Soundtrackcity organized sound walks and workshops in the area.

On November 15, we will return to Westkreuz after a period of absence of about one year. We are curious what has changed. Reservation required.
