Soundtrackcity participated in REVEIL again this year with an audio live stream from radio.earth on 3 and 4 May.
REVEIL is a relay of audio streams at sunrise during the first weekend of May, allowing you to take a 24-hour listening tour around the world. This year it was broadcast from an allotment garden, and last year from Berlin.
Live audio stream from VTV Frankendael
The stream originates from the Frankendael allotment association, a well-maintained and ecologically cultivated piece of land with high biodiversity near the former village of Driemond.
The allotment on the outskirts of Amsterdam serves as a refuge for plants and animals that have no chance of survival in the surrounding area, which is dominated by human infrastructure in all its forms. It borders the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal, which is located at a higher level and is one of the busiest shipping routes in the Netherlands. The sound of passing ships is quite soothing.
On the other side is a recreational area managed by Staatsbosbeheer (the Dutch Forestry Commission) that suffers from artificially low groundwater levels and excessive nitrogen deposition. As a result, the undergrowth is dull and biodiversity is low.
The allotment garden, on the other hand, with all its nooks and crannies, functions as a refuge. Many different animals and plants find a home there, and the allotment garden is also a breath of fresh air for people.
