To mark World Listening Day 2025, Soundtrackcity hosted a live audio stream from the Frankendael allotment garden complex near Driemond, south of Amsterdam. Listeners around the world were able to enjoy the rich sonic world of this unique area.
The complex, spacious and naturally overgrown, is home to a great diversity of life. It serves as a refuge for plants and animals that can barely find space in the wider surrounding due to heavy infrastructure, agro-industry, and encroaching urbanization. Many of these animals only make themselves heard when humans are at a distance—especially at night, surprising sounds emerged during the stream.
The broadcast was part of radio.earth, a participatory radio art project exploring the ecological crisis and opportunities for action. Earlier in 2025, on May 3, Soundtrackcity also hosted a live stream from Frankendael as part of Reveil. This laid the foundation for an ongoing sound documentation of this site across different seasons.
