Sound Mapping Workshop SoundUP: Listening, recording and uploading sounds

Do you hear sounds in the Binckhorst that you would like to record or share with others? Don’t know exactly where and how to do that or need practical or technical support? Come to the sound mapping workshop SoundUP on Sunday 9 March.

Participation is free, you will go outside with about 10 others under the guidance of sound artist Justin Bennett and director Renate Zentschnig to listen and record sounds. Then you will learn how to post your recordings on the digital sound map of the Binckhorst.

The Hague city district the Binckhorst is an area undergoing a transformation from industrial area to residential and working area. Many sounds that have been heard here over the past decades will disappear in the coming years. New sounds will take their place, including those coming from the area’s new residents.

This acoustic transformation process is being investigated by the SoundUP team in collaboration with people from the neighbourhood. One of the research tools is the digital sound map on which anyone can upload environmental sounds. Residents and entrepreneurs in the Binckhorst, artists, students of The Hague Conservatory and other interested parties will fill the map over the next few months with their favourite or, on the contrary, irritating sounds they hear in the Binckhorst.

Want to participate? Send an e-mail to soundup@koncon.nl with ‘9 March’ in the subject. You will receive a confirmation with the location of the workshop.
