On May 2nd Liebig 12 presents a day devoted to hearing and exploring our sound environment in very different ways. There will be a soundwalk around the streets, parks and pathways of Friedrichshain, followed by an evening of listening, discussion and talks devoted to the fast-growing practice of audio streaming. Artist and researchers Peter Cusack, Kerstin Ergenzinger, Michiel Huijsman, Udo Noll, Carsten Stabenow and others will outline projects in which they are involved, including radio.aporeeradio.earthSoundtrackcityTerra Ignota. The date also coincides with Reveil, the annual 24hour broadcast of audio streams that makes a full loop around the globe to listen to dawn choruses live as they occur at sunrise.The Reveil stream will feature as part of the evening event at Liebig 12.

Events

1) Start: 4.00pm _Meeting point: Liebig12, Liebigstr 12, 10247 Berlin

Duration: circa 90min/2hrs

Friedrichshain soundwalk with Peter Cusack, will take in the streets, green spaces and passageways of the area in a slow route, stopping to listen to and appreciate the varied soundscapes, perhaps commenting as we go. The walk will end in the unique garden of Villa Kuriosum.

2) Start: 7.30pm @Liebig12, Liebigstr 12, 10247 Berlin

Evening of audio streams, listening and discussion with Peter Cusack, Kerstin Ergenzinger, Michiel Huijsman, Udo Noll, Carsten Stabenow. The live streams will include the spectacular ultrasound calls of bats from a church tower in mid-Germany, dawn choruses from Reveil, perhaps underwater whales from southern Chile and Berlin locations much closer to home.

During the evening you will hear live streams from two special sites:
• Westkreuz, Berlin — a hidden allotment garden complex nestled within Germany’s oldest motorway interchange: an oasis of calm in the midst of traffic noise.
