Sonic Placemaking Berlin – A week-long dedication to urban speculative listening
as part of Interspecies Listening Communities
Together with Errant Sound, Aifoon and 15 international artists Soundtrackcity started Interspecies Listening Communities, a new project in Berlin that explores the diverse listening experiences and perspectives from different beings (be it human, animal, plant-like and so called non-living beings) at selected places in the city. With a variety of sound art-related practices and methods as well as with the input from experts from the fields of botany, zoology, architecture and city planning, this project undertakes the effort to gain knowledge of these urban places through attentive listening and sonic interventions. Together with the participants, we want to become aware of existing and to generate new interspecies listening communities on site.
Both project strands, Trans(it)klang and Sonic Placemaking Berlin, invite local audiences and interested people of different age in the respective neighbourhoods to join the events and to become part of an interspecies listening community.
Urban speculative listening
We warmly invite you to the kick-off research exhibition at Errant Sound on Sunday, 20 September, where we present the approaches and methods of Sonic Placemaking Berlin as well as texts, photographic and audio material from each place. During the following week, there will be further events to which you are very welcome and where you can join our exploration and exchange on that in greater depth.
